The Story of Diva

Diva is one of those dogs that is sent straight from heaven to us to teach us all a lesson about humanity. Her endearing story is one that we should all take to heart, and think long and hard about how we treat animals in society today. Her story is a testament to pit bulls, and hopefully will change many minds about how these dogs are viewed. It reminds us of the old saying "dont judge a book by it's cover". Something we as pit bull fans face every day with our dogs.

Diva came in as a stray to a shelter that wasn't "pit friendly". Her ears had been chopped off with a pair of scissors, probably in someone's garage, to give her that cropped ear look. This is referred to as a "home crop" job and is common in pit bulls that suffer abuse from the hands of their so called owners. No anaesthetic, a lot of bleeding and a resulting horrible hack job that left her ears completely cut off straight across the top of her head.

While she was lucky to find her way to some people involved in pit bull rescue, she had very little adoption interest and spent quite some time waiting for her perfect final home to come. No one was interested, as her ears were hard to look at, and she didn't have the opportunity to show anyone how lovely she really was. Diva was still very loving towards people, a gentle soul, and wanted desperately to have someone care for her, despite what cruelty had been done to her.

Then, one day, someone did take notice. A couple that had a Staffordshire Bull Terrier they devotedly loved which had since passed started corresponding with us. We told them the story of Diva, and Diva's fate began to change. Diva was with a fellow Washington bully rescue group; we were in Vancouver and together Diva found her angels.

The day Diva came to meet this couple, us as rescuers were holding our breath. Diva came out, went straight over to them for hugs and kisses, and given the opportunity, jumped right into their vehicle in the passenger seat as to say, "please, take me home." Diva now spends her day being cherished and showered with love and affection, something that no human had ever given her before. Diva's nature is so wonderful that she is a demonstration dog for HugABull, and together we all show the world the wonderful nature of these bull breed dogs, despite what cruelty and prejudice they suffer every day.

"Untitled"

I can... I can give more than enough loyal affection,
I can soak up being the center of positive attention,
I can, I can, Can I?!...
Can I be your pillow, blanket, even your personal foot warmer?
Can I just be with you, your family, your son or your daughter?
Can I, can I, I can!?...
I can be known as an American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier,
Staffordshire Bull Terrier or pit bull - for short,
I can prove it to you simply, watch my tail waggle, bum wiggle n' contort!
I can, I can, Can I?!...
Can I play, work, be your utmost trustworthy companion, friendship champion?
Can I at least help you form a more reliable, justified opinion?
Can I, can I, I can!?...
I can also be the scapegoat for irresponsible owner provocation,
I can, consequently, be the subject of Breed Specific Legislation,
I can, I can, Can I?!...
Can I receive some loyal affection - if you please!?
Can I receive some care n' attention to put me at ease?!
Can I, can I, I can!?...
I can they say - They say I can...
What do you say, can I?!...
"Can:" "be able to, know how to, be capable of, allowed to..."
