Who is the perfect pit bull owner? Well just like these dogs come in all shapes and sizes, so do the owners! The absolute ideal owner of this breed would be: Someone who takes the responsibility of dog ownership seriously and is committed to training, caring for and exercising their dog. These breeds have suffered terribly in the media due to people owning them and not being responsible. Ideally,
someone who has some breed knowledge, and a bit of a tough skin.
It is not uncommon for
Someone who can provide a moderate amount of exercise per day. We believe these dogs have on/off switches. On when outside, off when loafing inside. They can be extremely active and hike for miles, but can also loaf around like a lap dog and rarely wake from a snooze on the couch. However, they must get daily exercise to prevent bad behaviours such as chewing, vocalization, anxiety and other annoyances from not being provided an energy outlet. A
person who enjoys a dog full of personality!
It is no secret that many pit bulls converted
people who were Going to obedience class is a must, must, must! Early training and socialization is the key to success. If you are not willing to train your dog, this isn't the breed for you. Being comfortable being a breed advocate? There is nothing worse than someone who owns a pit bull because it makes them appear macho or tough. Owning a pittie and having no control over it or its interactions with other people and dogs has done this breed a world of hurt. Your dog is a direct reflection upon this breed as a whole. You must be the epitome of responsibility by spaying/neutering your dog, training it and being in control of it 100% of the time. There is a zero forgiveness policy out there in the world for pit bulls, and we have to set as best an example as we can as owners of this breed.
