VIRTUAL RESCUE!

We do not have a shelter, but a virtual rescue. We work for the dogs already in the system, giving them greater exposure and educating people on which dogs are the most suitable for them. We assist other rescues in their placement of dogs, and help potential adopters find the dog they're looking for.

The dogs on this site primarily come from local shelters and private rescues. Some are in time limited situations, so those are marked urgent. We do have a limited number of dogs in foster care as well.

If you are looking to re-home your pit bull, please read this.

We act as a resource to shelters and other rescues by:

- offering advice and assisting with temperament testing

- interpreting prey drives and inter-dog aggression and how to implement successful management techniques to potential adopters

- increased exposure of adoptable dogs, being on our website

- screening of applicants, including home checks

- providing guidance and education to shelter staff on bull breed issues

Our supportive services to RESCUE pit bull owners include:

- providing assistance to new bully owners, with post-adoption support and tips on problem behaviours specific to the bull breeds

- general obedience training advice

- assistance in accessing other pit friendly and bull breed experienced resources (trainers, vets etc)

In our future education and legislation:

We hope to provide more public education regarding bull breeds, with the emphasis on responsible dog ownership. We believe in fighting breed specific legislation, and would like to become more active in this area. We favour bylaws that are not breed biased, and place responsibility on the owner, not the dog. We believe breed specific legislation is highly prejudicial and unfairly targets responsible bull breed owners.

OUR BELIEFS

Our overwhelmingly love for this breed drove us to form this group. There was a huge need for someone to help out these breeds, present real information on them that wasn't media biased, and be an all around support to rescues, shelters, and owners. We wear many hats, as we work directly with dogs already in the system, help new owners with training/behavioural challenges, do public education work, assist in temperament testing and placement of rescue dogs, and try to project a positive pro-pit bull image that is so desperately lacking in the world today.

Many pit bulls do not get adopted and are euthanized simply because of lack of exposure and education. Of all the breeds, they have the lowest adoption rate overall. By placing these dogs correctly, we can help stop the flow of unwanted pit bulls in our shelters today. By education, we can give shelter staff and the general public insight on the true nature of the breed. For someone considering adopting their first pit bull, we can answer their questions honestly and help them in the process of finding just the right dog for them. We encourage people to have an open mind and seek out whether this is the right breed for them.
